as a 'good' species
and split from
reli-giosa into
a new species
Southern Hill
Myna ( Gracula
indica).
In Sri Lanka,
it is largely
confined to the
wet zone ascending
to the mid hills.
Its range overlaps
with endemic Sri
Lanka Myna (Gracula
ptilogenys)
where there is
thicik forest.
From the latter
it is distinguished
by the double
pair of head wattles
with one below
the eye and the
lack of black
on the base of
the bill. The
call is a loud
penetrating long-drawn
Keeyu.
