to mid hills.
Also common inthe
foothills tomidhills
onthe drier, easternside
of the mountains.
Its pleasing,
far-carryin calls,
heardthroughout
the day, are the
most characteristic
sound of all the
forested areas
of the wet zone
lowlands and adjacent
hills a repeated
ku-ki-yuk with
a rattling prelude.
The second-largest
barbet in the
island, it is
unmistakablewith
its blue face
and yellow forehead.
It frequents tall
trees, but descends
to lower trees
especially when
these are in fruit.
